The FCM aims to increase public awareness and appreciation of cathedral music, encourage high standards in choral and organ music and raise money for choirs in need.

The Guild of Church Musicians was formed in 1888 and exists to encourage all musicians within the Church to attain the highest standards of music in the worship of Almighty God.  The joint patrons of the Guild are the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster. 

Membership (£20 due in January each year) is open to anyone interested in church music and whilst the majority of members live in the UK the Guild has members living in all parts of the world. There is also a separate branch of The Guild in Australia.

The Guild of Musicians and Singers is proud to work in close association with the National College of Music and Arts, London, which was founded in 1894. The NCM holds examinations throughout the UK and as far afield as Hong Kong in all the standard instruments and singing. They are proud of their ability to adapt to the needs of teachers and pupils, holding examinations at suitable times and venues to accommodate their needs rather than simply for the convenience of the College.
